GPC Medical aims to break the pause in people’s lives and keep them moving forward

Locking plates and screws with its several advantages is a breakthrough in the orthopedic treatment of fractures and it has now become a promising treatment. GPC Medical Limited is one of the leading manufacturers of orthopedic instrumentation. The company is determined to continue its historical record of providing US FDA 510(K) Approved plating Systems. Locking plates and screws have been on the general Orthopedic market for the past 8 years. These have revolutionized internal fixation of fractures, especially metaphysical fractures. They differ from conventional plates and screws and this page attempt to outline these differences as well as defining the advantages and contraindications of this new type of Orthopaedic hardware. GPC Medical Limited has remained the forerunners in the technological adaptation of evolving hardware designs by using their state of the art technology and standardized quality testing protocols for the reliability of the product.

There are several benefits of using Locking plate and screw systems instead of others and previously used systems. GPC Medical Limited offers a variety of total 55 items that are designed to cater to all sorts of locking plate fracture cases. The innovative designs of GPC Medical Ltd follow the latest technological advancement in locking plate/screw orthopedics. The quality control and designs are catered under the supervision of expert and experienced surgeons to ensure real-time surgical success for all cases. Conventional plate/screw systems require precise adaptation of the plate to the underlying bone. Without this intimate contact, tightening of the screws will draw the bone segments toward the plate, resulting in alterations in the position of the osseous segments and the occlusal relationship. On the other hand, it becomes unnecessary for the plate to intimately contact the underlying bone in all areas in a locking plate system, since the screws are tightened, they “lock” to the plate, thus stabilizing the segments without the need to compress the bone to the plate. This makes it impossible for the screw insertion to alter the reduction.

There are over 55 locking plate solutions that we offer in GPC Medical Limited portfolio that you can choose from just a simple Locking Plate 3.5mm to a complex Medial Distal End Tibia Locking Plate that is customized specifically for the medial, distal end tibial plating.

GPC locking plates in Orthopaedic Surgery

Over the last decade, Orthopaedic plates and screws have undergone a major change, and GPC Medical Limited has closely adopted all technological and design changes to ensure maximum effectiveness. The screw locks into a machine screw in the plate as well as being threaded into the bone. The union to the plate keeps the screw fixed rigidly at around 90 degrees to the plate. Each locked screw thus acts as a mini blade plate. Conventional screws rely on friction between the plate and screw to prevent movement at the fracture site – the locking plate does not!

The locking acts as a small internal fixator – the same principle as an external fixator. In other words, they have rigid pins or screws into the bone and the plate is analogous to the external bar of an affix. The plates do not have to be completely adjacent to the bone as with conventional plates. This allows preservation of soft tissue which is often the blood supply to the bone and its fragments.

GPC Medical Limited makes these locked plates anatomically specific to the area designed for. The pates come pre-contoured for various anatomical areas e.g. the proximal humerus or plateau area of the lateral proximal tibial metaphysis. Some GPC medical designs include jigs allowing the plate to be placed percutaneously into the bone while the jig guides the surgeon to the screw holes underneath.

GPC Medical limited Locking plates and screws can be indicated in several fracture cases. However, not all fractures require locking plates. For diaphyseal fractures, an intramedullary pin is often more appropriate. For simple fractures such as forearm diaphysealbreaks, conventional plates are probably even more appropriate and are cheaper! These bones have a 90 percent union rate anyway.

The prime advantage of GPC Medical Ltd. locking plates is when the bone is of poor quality, such as with fragility fractures and in metaphysical areas. Also in fractures where one can make use of percutaneous techniques these locking plate’s cone tom their own. One does not aim for an anatomical reduction of each fragment of a fracture – thus the blood supply is preserved by avoiding stripping.

Why GPC Medical Limited Locking Plates/Screws?

GPC Medical Limited locking plates are screws are available at reasonable and competitive prices, and GPC locking plate and screw systems have advantages over the conventional screw systems. Conventional plate/screw systems require precise adaptation of the plate to the underlying bone. Without this intimate contact, tightening of the screws will draw the bone segments toward the plate, resulting in alterations in the position of the osseous segments and the occlusal relationship. GPC medical Limited locking plate/screw systems offer certain advantages over other plates in this regard. The most significant advantage may be that it becomes unnecessary for the plate to intimately contact the underlying bone in all areas. As the screws are tightened, they “lock” to the plate, thus stabilizing the segments without the need to compress the bone to the plate. This makes it impossible for the screw insertion to alter the reduction. Another potential advantage in locking plate/screw systems is that they do not disrupt the underlying cortical bone perfusion as much as conventional plates, which compress the undersurface of the plate to the cortical bone. A third advantage to the use of GPC Medical locking plate/screw systems is that the screws are unlikely to loosen from the plate. This means that even if a screw is inserted into a fracture gap, loosening of the screw will not occur. Similarly, if a bone graft is screwed to the plate, a locking screw will not loosen during the phase of graft incorporation and healing. The possible advantage to this property of a locking plate/screw system is a decreased incidence of inflammatory complications from the loosening of the hardware. It is known that loose hardware propagates an inflammatory response and promotes infection. For the hardware or a locking plate/screw system to loosen, loosening of a screw from the plate or loosening of all of the screws from their bony insertions would have to occur.

GPC Medical Limited Locking plate/screw systems have been shown to provide more stable fixation than other locking and nonlocking plate/screw systems. When it comes to quality, reliability, and variety, GPC Medical Limited is a promising leader in locking plate and screw system solutions.
